Dance Studios Omaha NETDA’s all new Academy program offers Academy Dance Classes in Omaha for recreational dancers – whether you’re just beginning or are looking to improve your dance technique without the commitment of competition – there are classes available for you!  Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Tumbling, and Hip-Hop are a few of the styles offered! Keep reading for a full list of dance classes we offer.

Description of Classes

Move & Groove

– 18 months -2 years – One recital dance

Mommy & Me

– 18 months-2 years – One recital dance These classes introduce young children to movement through music.  They will learn the basics of dance technique while improving large motor skills and coordination through creative exercises and movement games.  Teachers will also be promoting classroom etiquette such as following directions, listening skills, and respect for their peers. Dress Code: Children are encouraged to wear clothing that is easy to move in.  Leotard and tights are optional.  Hair must be secured off of face and neck.

Ballet/Tap Combo Classes

– Classes available, ages 3-8 – Ballet and Tap – Two recital dances These classes expose students to the joy of dance through movement games, creative exercises, exploration of dance styles and an introduction to movement vocabulary. Children learn in a positive atmosphere while learning a curriculum that introduces the basic concepts of Ballet and Tap, promotes musicality and rhythm, and instructs foundational and fundamental dance techniques. Dress Code: Children are expected to wear a leotard and tights.  Dance skirts and appropriate cover-ups are permitted. Hair must be secured off of face and neck.

Triple Threat – NEW!

– Classes available, ages 3-8 – One recital dance This ALL NEW class introduces developing dancers to Jazz, Hip-hop and Tumbling! We encourage taking this class in correspondance with the primary Ballet and Tap combo class to maximize your child’s dance experience.

Tumbling Only – NEW!

– Classes available, ages 3-8 – One recital dance Tumbling is a progressive class that develops the fundamentals of balance and coordination.  They will learn the proper technique and execution of backbends, cartwheels, round-offs, back walk-overs and hand stands while working towards arials, back hand springs, and round-off back hand springs. Dress Code:  Dance appropriate clothing is required such as: tank tops, booty shorts, leggings, form-fitting t-shirts, or leotards.  Pajama pants and/or sweatpants are unacceptable. Hair must be secured off of face and neck.

Powerhouse – NEW!!

– Classes available, ages 7+ – NO recital dance

Kids strength-training class. They will learn how to use own body for resistance to build healthy muscles, joints, and bones. The supervised program will help improve endurance, total fitness level, and sports performance.

Dress Code:  Fitness attire. No outside street shoes. We ask you have a pair of white-sole sneakers that are designed for this class only.  Girls hair must be secured off of face and neck.

All-Stars/Rock Stars

– Classes available, ages 9+ – One recital dance per enrolled class These classes are for dancers looking to either embark on or continue their dance education.  We offer individual classes in Jazz, Tap, Lyrical and Ballet technique.  Academy Ballet is strongly encouraged as a corresponding course for all All-Star classes.  (See descriptions below.) Dress Code:  Dance appropriate clothing is required such as: tank tops, booty shorts, leggings, form-fitting t-shirts, or leotards.  Pajama pants and/or sweatpants are unacceptable. Hair must be secured off of face and neck.

Leaps/Jumps/Turns – NEW!!

– Technique only – NO recital dance Leaps, Jumps, Turns is a class designed for those interested in perfecting their dance technique and/or students with aspirations of competing on the TDA Company or high school dance teams, in the future.  This class reinforces the critical aspects and techniques of dance that all elite dancers must master. Dress Code: Dance appropriate clothing is required such as: tank tops, booty shorts, leggings, form-fitting t-shirts, or leotards.  Pajama pants and/or sweatpants are unacceptable. Hair must be secured off of face and neck.

Tap

Tap develops rhythm and sound coordination skills in an upbeat class.  The goal is to develop tap dancers that are equally strong musicians, dancers, and performers. Dress Code: Dance appropriate clothing is required such as: tank tops, booty shorts, leggings, form-fitting t-shirts, or leotards.  Pajama pants and/or sweatpants are unacceptable. Hair must be secured off of face and neck.

Jazz

Jazz is a high energy class focused on developing strength and flexibility, correct alignment, and coordination all while improving technique to help students enhance their leaps, jumps and turns.  The goal is to develop dancers who are expressive, dynamic, musical and passionate. Dress Code: Dance appropriate clothing is required such as: tank tops, booty shorts, leggings, form-fitting t-shirts, or leotards.  Pajama pants and/or sweatpants are unacceptable. Hair must be secured off of face and neck.

Lyrical

Lyrical is a style of dance that blends Ballet and Jazz.  It is an expressive form of art that portrays emotion of songs and lyrics through movement. Dress Code: Leotards and pink tights are required for all ballet classes.  No exceptions.  Ballet skirts and appropriate cover-ups are permitted.  Hair must be secured off of face and neck.

Ballet

Ballet is the foundation for all dance styles.  Ballet technique will focus on building strength, poise, proper body alignment, turnout and extension in an expressive atmosphere. Dress Code: Leotards and pink tights are required for all ballet classes.  No exceptions.  Ballet skirts and appropriate cover-ups are permitted.  Hair must be secured off of face and neck.

Pre-Pointe

Pre-Pointe is the extension of ballet class.  This class typically takes 1 year and is designed to set up the young dancers for success en pointe. This class emphasizes strengthening exercises for the legs and feet.  Dancers learn about pointe shoes, how to properly affix and tie pointe shoe ribbons, and proper foot care.  Dancers remain in pre-pointe until they are formally advanced by the instructor to study en pointe. Dress Code: Leotards and pink tights are required for all ballet classes.  No exceptions.  Ballet skirts and appropriate cover-ups are permitted.  Hair must be secured off of face and neck.

Pointe

Pointe is the extension of ballet class and pre-pointe.  Dancers must be 11 years of age, have sufficient core and ankle strength, and need permission from the instructor to be eligible for Pointe. Dress Code: Leotards and pink tights are required for all ballet classes.  No exceptions.  Ballet skirts and appropriate cover-ups are permitted.  Hair must be secured off of face and neck.

Hip-Hop

This high energy class is a funky, stylized approach to jazz that encompasses hip-hop movements from styles such as popping, locking, and breaking.  It is designed to teach rhythm, coordination, musicality and hip-hop choreography. Dress Code: Dance appropriate clothing is required such as: tank tops, booty shorts, leggings, form-fitting t-shirts, or leotards.  Pajama pants and/or sweatpants are unacceptable. Hair must be secured off of face and neck.

Tumbling

– Classes available, ages 4+ – One recital dance These classes are designed for boys only.  They too teach rhythm, coordination and musicality with an emphasis on strength & flexibility needed for popping and b-boy/breaking tricks. Dress Code: No jeans or restrictive clothing.
