Off Season Dance Tips
As a dancer, there really is no “off-season”. But when competition season winds down and school ends, there are some fundamental things that you should be doing for your mind and your body. Take 10 days off- You deserve it and you need it. Give your mind and body time to recover and rest. The season is demanding and your body needs time to rest and heal. During your time off, be sure to stretch a lot. If you want to be active during this time, Yoga or Pilates classes are a great way to stay loose and stretched without taxing your dance muscles too much. Get stronger- The summer time is great time to get stronger and work on parts of your body that are underdeveloped. Dancers consistently have problems with their hips, for example. Spend time working your hips low back and core in ways that dancing cannot. To help our dancers with this, TDA holds a Summer Bootcamp that resembles more or a Cross-Fit class than it does a dance class.
